Welcome to Helsinki

The Nordic Conference of Merntal Health Nursing will be held in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. The Helsinki metropolitan area has over one million inhabitants.

Helsinki is located within good direct flight connections from most European capitals as well as from many other locations world wide. Helsinki- Vantaa Airport is situated 20 kilometres North of Helsinki’s city centre. Helsinki is a pleasant city for visitors. It offers all the necessary services even for a demanding traveller within a compact area.

Helsinki is full of activity. The metropolitan area is a centre of culture, science, trade and business. In addition, sports events, museums and interesting sights can be found in Helsinki.

The Office of the President as well the Parliament and the Government and many ministries are all located in the capital of Finland.

Finland – an exciting experience

The Republic of Finland is one of the Nordic Countries and a member of the European Union since 1995. Finland has a population of about 5,3 million people spread over more than 330,000 square kilometres, making it one of the most sparsely populated countries in Europe. Finland is a country of thousands of lakes and plenty of untouched nature and forests.

A quarter of Finland’s territory lies above the Arctic Circle. During midsummer the sun does not set at all in the northern part of the country.

General information

  • Finland has two official languages, Finnish and Swedish. The Finns speak foreign languages well and tourists are served in variety of languages in many places. People generally have a good command of English.
  • Finland is a participant in the European single currency, so the currency used is euro (EUR).
  • Time zone: GMT + 2 hours, daylight saving time GMT + 3 hours in effect from March to October as in other EU countries.
